As a person in their twenties, I'm almost always trying to navigate my way through life while dealing with an overwhelming feeling of uncertainty and a ton of doubtful moments when making life decisions whether they are big or small.

I was trying to pin down where that feeling of uncertainty was originating from and I couldn't help but notice the fact that I get distressed whenever I find myself in a position where it is difficult to control, plan, or predict a future outcome. And it is all because most of us are creatures of habit and prefer to have a plan or routine in place.

Uncertainty has put me in an intense negative emotional state and made me blind to the positivity all around me. It exaggerated and magnified all of the problems I face and my worries about the future and all the bad things I anticipate happening. It has oftentimes left me feeling hopeless and depressed about the days ahead and even paralyzed me from taking action to overcome the challenges that life throws my way.

But the question remains the same, is uncertainty a reality?

Our lives revolve around resisting uncertainty and reaching for a safety zone, but uncertainty is a constant in life. The reality of our everyday existence is that things change every day, even when we wish that they would stay the same, and nothing is certain. And when uncertainty leads to doubt and fear, we find ourselves stuck. Random events can and do happen when we're unprepared to deal with the fallout. Because if one thing is certain in life it is the fact that certainty can be comfortable and demand little from us. But clinging to it limits our future, shrinks opportunity, and prevents us from ever realizing our potential and just how much we are capable of doing.

Control is an illusion and uncertainty is the reality that can ultimately enrich our lives or diminish them.

Learning how to live and cope with feeling uncertain is a difficult thing, trying to find a balance on how much you should listen to your worries can sometimes take a toll on your well-being, you have to find ways to deal with it. You can start by avoiding dwelling on things you can't control and taking your own advice but also seeking support from those you trust. Embrace uncertainty by being kind to yourself, reflecting on past successes, developing new skills, and engaging in self-care!
