Styling a small space might be considered a challenge to some people, but the truth is that the general rules for design (whether you have a big house or a small one) are still the same. You start by acquiring a good eye for what works and what doesn't, and you will be good to go!

You might be familiar with the concept of Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese art of arranging buildings, objects, and space in a way to attain harmony and balance in a certain environment. Spaces in a house can either be more active and public (like the living room), or rest-oriented and private (like the bedroom).

But most of the time it is not as obviously defined as it could be when you are dealing with small spaces. In that case, it is suggested that you create a sense of a definition for the entry to the space by maybe painting it with a contrasting color. You can also use the help of dividers (sheer curtains, open shelving, partitions) to divide up your small space without making it feel too tight and also act as dramatic design elements that give additional flair to your space.

Clutter is your worst enemy, it is really important to be selective with what you have in your space, and whatever room you have should be used in a practical and mindful way to leave plenty of open space for ease of movement and maintaining utility. So always try to edit down the number of belongings that you have in your space and keep them to a minimum, by getting rid of the things that don’t really serve a purpose in your life (be it because they’re impractical, useless, or just don’t bring you joy) you are making more room for much better energy.

When you go scouting for new furniture look for a double-duty item that serves a variety of purposes, such as beds that can convert into couches and side tables that can convert into desks, this will end up saving you both space and money!

You can also make use of mirrors to give the illusion of additional space in rooms since they reflect back natural and non-natural lighting giving an illusion of more square footage.

Lighting is an important element in creating a feeling of warmth, expansion, and airiness in a space. Maximizing the light can expand the home visually and energetically. A small room can really open up with the right lighting, so let there always be light!
