Some people have a hard time opening up to others, and sharing parts of their lives is considered a struggle since they have a natural tendency to keep things to themselves. If you're one of those people then you might find some of my words to be relatable, because being myself, I've had my fair share of trying to figure out my way through this specific obstacle. And I'm calling it an obstacle because most of the times (whether it be oversharing or under-sharing) it could be a block in the road to something great.

To overshare or to keep things all to yourself?

Should there be specific elements that must be available in order for one to be able to share parts of themselves comfortably without even questioning whether they should or shouldn't be doing it? Most people would agree on the point that an establishment of a safe environment, space and an enough sense of comfort to make one open for sharing is key element.

Personally speaking, this question has been haunting me for as long as I can remember. I've made it a personal mission to get to the core of the question and in the process I've had to do some deep self-reflection. But I couldn't rely solely on some of the answers that I got out of my personal view so I had to gather more intel through conducting some thorough discussions with friends about whether it is better to overshare or under-share, only then I was able to see the different sides to how each person viewed the concept of sharing.

Just like every other obstacle in life, the only way we can go around it is to find a balancing point.

finding a balance

We are all just going through life figuring out everyday's struggles one day at a time. One has to be in peace with the fact that there is nothing guaranteed in life, there is no manual as to how we must handle situations. There is no way we can say that oversharing is the right way to go about in life or other way around. It is a tricky subject, one that can only be gauged according to the situation at hand.

To conclude this wondering session, and as simple as i can put it into words, it is all about trial and error. Overshare once and see how it goes. Don't be afraid to test the waters (as long as it's not freezing cold or boiling hot!).
