On POV

As described in the dictionary POV is an abbreviation, acronym or a shorthand for the phrase Point Of View.

But in real life (IRL) it has more than one meaning. On one hand, it can be viewed from a physical aspect; such as the standing point of a person's eyesight or observation of their surroundings or what a camera lens has in framing. On the other hand it can be of a mental standpoint; a personal belief, an individual's interpretation of a specific situation or an opinion on a certain topic in a conversation.

As every other word in the dictionary, this one has had its share of being used in a poetic way around the social media. Every teen had at least used it once or twice as a caption for their Instagram and Twitter posts. We keep seeing it everywhere we go, POV this POV that.. but what is it actually that makes the idea such a compelling trend?

Being humans, it is only natural of a feeling to want to fit into the social circle, so whenever there is a trend we almost always hop on the opportunity to add our personal "POV"to it. There is always that sense of curiosity we have about seeing the world through someone else's eyes and feeling that there could be someone out there who might be seeing the world from a similar point of view to ours.

From my point of view I think this is a beautiful harmless trend and an attempt to connect to the world and other fellow humans on a core level, a subtle way of social bonding over what might seem on the surface a yet again shallow morning coffee post.
